Beacon Test R&D Design Control Procedure

Effective Date: June 25, 2026
Document Owner: Quality and Regulatory Affairs

Design Input Requirements
Design inputs must be documented before prototype development begins. Each input must describe the user need, functional requirement, regulatory requirement, performance target, acceptance criteria, and source. Regulatory inputs may come from applicable standards, customer commitments, market authorization requirements, risk management outputs, or quality system procedures.

Design Review Gates
R&D projects must complete formal design reviews at concept freeze, prototype release, verification readiness, validation readiness, and design transfer. Each design review must include representatives from R&D, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, and Product Management. Open action items must have an owner and due date before the review can be closed.

Verification and Validation
Verification confirms that design outputs meet design inputs. Validation confirms that the product meets user needs and intended use. Verification protocols must include test method, sample size rationale, acceptance criteria, required equipment, data collection method, and deviation handling. Validation studies involving external participants require Regulatory Affairs approval before recruitment begins.

Design Changes
Design changes after prototype release must be assessed for impact to requirements, risk controls, verification evidence, validation evidence, labeling, supplier controls, and regulatory submissions. Major design changes require Quality approval before implementation. Minor design changes may be approved by the R&D project lead if no regulated requirement, risk control, or customer commitment is affected.

Design History File
The Design History File must contain approved design inputs, design outputs, design review records, verification and validation evidence, risk management traceability, design transfer records, and release approvals. Quality must confirm DHF completeness before commercial launch. Missing DHF records must be escalated to quality-regulatory@beacontest.example.
